DIY Hair Cut

Posted by: User ImagePenny (Who am I?) In: If You've Got Trouble...

Something I find I just don’t want to spend money on is a haircut. It is just so expensive and I am usually never happy with the results. As you have probably read, I have a kind of love-hate relationship with my hair and there have been many occasions in the past when I have attacked it with the scissors - this usually didn’t result in anything I was happy with.

But these days I frequently cut my own hair. The trich isn’t so bad that it has messed it up completely (though I am pretty sure there is a small bald patch now developing - but that’s a whole other post) so I have been growing my hair for a while and it has gotten really long.

Firstly everyone knows when you go to the hairdresser for a trim they usually end up taking off inches, so I didn’t want to risk my long hair. Secondly, I just can’t afford the expense so I have taken to cutting it myself. The great thing is since it is so long you can barely notice if it’s not perfect, and it’s great for cleaning up those split ends!

If you don’t have a fancy hairstyle and have it long and plain like me the maybe you could try cutting it yourself - but in case you mess up you might want to have the money for a hairdresser as a backup plan! I would also not recommend this to anyone who is feeling terrible about their hair through anything like trich, as from experience I know that it usually won’t help and you would probably end up going too far.

I’m just fitting in this quick post since my man is here to stay for a while. I will be back again properly in a few days :)

I haven’t ever taken to cutting my hair, but I do trim my fringe quite often. I prefer to have my hair just above my breasts and in layers (I have thick hair so one length is not a good look) so it would be difficult to cut on my own :)

I have to get my mum to cut mine because I am so sensitive about people looking at it that I can’t bear to be in a place where I know there will be attention on it :(

Hi Ms PennyLane,
Sometimes going to the parlor to have your hair cut or for a pedicure or a foot spa can be a relaxing experience. It keeps your mind off the pressing problems of the day. After the session, you feel relaxed and recharged and are able to get back to the normal flow of things. Thanks for the post. God bless.

Oh I have done it since I was in high school. I’m with you when you said that you end up regretting when you get your hair trimmed by someone else. It annoyed me big time. I have started practicing trimming my mom’s and sis’ hairs and then started to do mine when the layered look got in the trend. Thanks to Jen Aniston. lol! I swear I can layer my own hair better than any parlor personnel can! I just had to picture what I wanted my hair to look like and voila in a few minutes I sport the look I want. I have to say though that it takes practice. Dear mom and sister were every available then and they didn’t mind, lucky me. :D

Thanks for dropping your EC and leaving me a comment. I’m glad you agree with my view on DIY haircuts, it’s great you can layer your hair. I try, but it doesn’t work out too well though it doesn’t matter too much at the moment.
