Pouring Your Heart Out To A Stranger

My blog was a stranger to me, yet I told it my deepest thoughts, the worry and words I had never spoken before, the problems I would still never tell anyone else.

Over time this stranger led me to a mass of other strangers – all of which offered me support, let me know I wasn’t alone, commented on my daily routine, helped me decide on my next move, recalled their own experiences.

(And it hasn’t always been easy for me to let strangers in.)

You are all just as lost as me, but also have the benefit of different experiences, different problems, different strengths, different weaknesses. And there are millions more of these ‘strangers’ that I have yet to meet.

The strangest thing is that a stranger taught me so much about myself. It doesn’t say anything, but it tells me so much. It makes me wonder how I can enrich myself, how I can improve my writing, how I can amass more knowledge, and how to fit these pieces together to realise what I want to do ‘when I grow up’.

I really didn’t know how to find the words to say what I wanted for this week’s Sunday Scribblings prompt without sounding cheesy, but what I really want to say is that you strangers and your even stranger experiences from all around the world are so important to me! How do you feel about the strangers you meet every day?

  2. Gemma says —

I agree with you! The whole concept of a stranger is evolving into levels from negative warning to possible positive inspiration!

  3. mspennylane says —

lilyasia - hehe that’s why it is so strange

Gemma - I really like that phrase ‘from negative warning to possible positive inspiration’! Very nice way of looking at it that I hadn’t thought of really.

Weird isn’t it. Blogging does that to us. It’s amazing the things we learn about ourselves and other’s through this amazing piece of technology… We live..

These strangers we speak to each day seem to become less so after time. I have made some good friends through blogging with strangers.

I understand what you say…..the word “stranger” has undefined limits for each situation and each individual…

Ms. Penny Lane, though we may be “strangers,” I must say I connect with you on the Beatles stuff. Now I have “Lucy in the Sky” in my head! I agree that it is interesting to meet new people. Yes, at first they are strangers, but often the strangers can become good friends. And on that note, nice to meet you!

    Hi,
A stranger might just be a friend you haven’t met yet. I feel good when I meet another kind soul. Not all strangers are good, but I do like to open my heart to everyone. If I don’t fit in, I just move on to another stranger. Nice post! :-)

Sunshine - What a lovely comment - I love it when people recognise the Beatles link :) Nice to meet you too!

Robin - I love that saying, such a lovely way to look at things (though of course we must be wary of some strangers). Blogging strangers really are exciting!

    Very well written thoughts :)

I have a different outlook on folks because of my spiritual belief I believe we all knew eachother before coming to live this life.

So when I see someone I haven’t met yet on Earth - I just know they are someone that I’ve known before.

    Did I lose ya?

    ;)

I see “strangers” as friends I haven’t *seen* in awhile.

    So hi friend!

    Love and Light ~ Mon

First, as a stranger, thank you for visiting my poetry site (see my URL) and for kindly taking the time to comment on my haiku/senryu. :)

Second, as a stranger, I always return the favor by doing the same and visiting you here.

Third, I too learned a lot from “strangers,” and I must say that I too have grown in my poetry and fine-tuning my voice.

It’s amazing to learn about everyone’s different experiences and at the same time, know that everyone can share the same emotions.

Sometimes it’s a lot easier to let our hair down and be ourselves with strangers than with people we know. I, too, love blogging and get so much out of it.

You are all just as lost as me You’ve got that right!

I loved your post! It’s so to the point of what blogging is. Isn’t it amazing how these strangers start to know us and sometimes even have amazing insights about how we really are? Strangers no more, that’s for sure :)

I like this post. You described some stuff in here that I agree with put couldn’t voice. It is nice that we are all friends. I eagerly await what others say in their blogs and comments. Special friendships on a different level to traditional face to face relationships.

I agree with Robin. This post isn’t cheesy at all. Personally I find that you can get better words of wisdom from strangers than from people you know.

That’s why I posted on the heading to my blog “Blogger Friends are not Virtual. They are Real”. If we read and comment on each others posts, we don’t remain strangers for long…

  20. mspennylane says —

Monica - That’s a lovely way of looking at the world, thanks for coming here and sharing.

A~Lotus - And sharing emotions is somehow a lot easier with ’strangers’ in a blog than those we know in real life, sometimes.

Devil mood - It’s true, I tell more to these ’strangers’ than I do to anyone else!

sis - It’s true, I’ve definitely met some good blogging friends :)

    Tumblewords - Yes very true!

Linda May - I love reading what others have to say too. It is different from face to face, but in some ways that can make it better.

ImitationAngel - I agree with that too. I am learning so much through blogging :)

Granny Smith - Yes I love that headline to your blog!

We are not all strangers really. We are all bonded together by a common humanity that surpasses our individual differences. It is in the rediscovering of our shared humanity that we are able to relate to others and empathize with them. Thanks for the profound post. God bless.
